Work experience

To quote the Gatsby framework, “Every pupil should have first-hand experiences of the workplace through work visits, work shadowing, and / or work experience to help their exploration of career opportunities and expand their networks.

By the age of 16 every pupil should have had at least one experience of a workplace, additional to any part-time jobs they may have.

By the age of 18, every pupil should have had one further such experience, additional to any part-time jobs they may have.”

Lydiard Park Academy are committed to the full implementation of Gatsby Benchmark 6.

To support our pupils, we offer a dedicated work experience programme for Year 12 and Year 13, giving our pupils direct access to business and networks.

We continue to develop the implementation of ‘work placement’ opportunities, with all Year 10 pupils having opportunities to visit a variety of industries. This will enable the understanding and awareness of the labour market and career opportunities open to them.

To support understanding of work experience, we have included a variety of websites to offer advice and guidance.
